Andy,

You need to apply more pressure when inserting the shaft into the trigger mech. You do not have to pull the trigger to engage the shaft.

I bought a brand new JBL woody 38 last month while in Cancun. When i returned home in Costa Rica I took it out for a little weekend fun. I loaded the gun and it shot nicely the first time. When i went to load it again a second time i had trouble loading it. It seemed it just didnt want to lock fully into the trigger. Finally i got it locked ….i put on the safety and started looking for some fish. About 5 mins into the swim the gun fired without me touching the trigger and with the safety on. I tried to exchange it with the dealer in Mexico but they refused to exchange the gun. I then email JBL international but they have not answered any of my 5 emails. Its seems they only answer you if you post something for everyone to see! Please JBL MAKE THIS RIGHT AND STAND BEHIND YOU PRODUCT!

About a month ago, I purchased an Elite Woody Sawed Off Magnum through Leisurepro.com. This past weekend, I took a mini-vacation to the Florida Keys. Excited to use my new gunfor the first time, I ended up using it for a total of 3 days. As I was in the water on our last day, as I was loading my gun I felt something was wrong and noticed that the shock line had come off the gun. When I go to wrap the shock line again, I noticed something. At the site of the line release, the wood had splintered. You can even see the pin that holds the line release in place through the splintered would. I figure that this should be covered under some kind of factory warranty. Like I said previously, this was the first weekend using the gun. Up until that point, the gun was working remarkably, I was awstruck. I'm just glad that it happened at the end of our trip and not the beginning. What do I need to do?

Please contact Leisure Pro to have them get an RA# from JBL. They will return the gun to the factory to our warranty department for inspection. We at JBL International apologize for any trouble this might have caused. Send us your pictures of the fish you caught in the keys with the gun in the picture of course and we will include you on our website. Thanks for shooting JBL!

Hmmmm,

I just bought a Elite Woody Sawed-Off Magnum and noticed the same issue. I just figured that it was how it was supposed to be loaded as well. I have not tried pushing REAL hard to see if it will seat or not so I have just been squeezing the trigger just like you were. I usually don't think things should need to be forced into a configuration they were designed for so I have been hesitant to really jam it in.

Change out the bands.

Not sure how often you shoot the gun but if the bands are a year old they probably need changing. They may look fine (i.e. not dry rotted) but to me i find they are noticeably loosing their snap about 6-8 dive trips (thats about 30-50 shots the way I dive). Even a year old gun could have sat on someones shelf for a few years prior to purchase and the bands are that much further weakened.

I time my band changes so that I start with fresh rubber at the beginning of each season and usually change em out once again mid season. I keep a few of the old bands on the boat or in the bag as spares (in case I break or damage a fresh one).

In between trips I keep them in the freezer...it really does seem to make a difference. If you dont dive that much and keep the bands stored out of the sun and heat you may get more mileage than me. Fresh bands are cheap enough insurance that I try to change them 2x a year, but once a year is the bare minimum.

So I just too my brand new woody magnum out of the box and im not sure if there is something wrong with the trigger mechanism. It seems that the only way to seat the shaft is to hold the trigger down and push the shaft in until it seats. Is this right? I called Divers Supply .com where i ordered it and they told me that is the way its supposed to work as a safety mechanism. Really? I own an older style JBL Woody sawed of Magnum and the shaft seats just by pushing it in with no need to hold the trigger. Any thoughts? Do I need to send it back or is this part of the new trigger mechanism.
