The Woody Sawed-Off has 18′ range with 3 bands, but the Woody Elite Sawed-Off has 22′ range with only bands. Is this correct and what is the difference in bands?

    jdogg,
The Woody series guns come with 3 x 9/16 bands and the Elite Woody series come with 2 x 5/8 bands. 2 x 9/16 bands are just about equilivant to 1 x 5/8 band. Bottom line 5/8 bands have more power! Hope this helps.

I have the woody sawed off magnum and I must say it seems to be the perfect gun. Not too big yet not too small. Loads of power I have yet to lose a fish with it. I can’t complain about this gun, I’d recommend it to anyone!

    Quite disappointed.
The last woody 63″ I bought last winter, had a simple plastic trigger housing, that brake after only 4 times use!
I see the new models with completely different trigger systems, there must be a reason. The plastic of mine is so soft that the shaft fires itself! Very dangerous.
But I could not get any warranty repair or refund at the shop (leisurepro), not even an answer!
    Really a bad experience.

We are very sorry that you are unhappy with your “woody”. It sounds like you have a warranty issue that needs to be delt with. You must contact the store you purchased the gun from and they will get a RMA# for a authorized warranty check. This is standard proceedure with all warranty issues. Make sure you have the proper paper work for them.
Yes the new “woody” design has changed. Not because of a flaw in the old wood design, but because technology and demand for updated products are changing so quick that we must stay on the top. If you are unhappy with your purchase you can always sell what you have to a private party and buy the latest and greatest.

  7. William Lile says:

    Dear JBL,
My wife ordered a 53″ sawed off Magnum Woody for me for Christmas. The shaft will not engage and stay in the handle base. Followed the directions; tried it with safety off and tried it with the safety on, several times. Also the butt pad is rotated about 10 -15 degrees counter clockwise. Called the store that sold it to her, got the RMA#, they referred her to your JBL customer service. You are closed till 1/4/10. The handle appears to be plastic and not epoxy over solid aluminum. Which is it? This is my vacation week too, back to the old pole spear, the new gun would have been nice.. Thank you for the help.

    William,
We apologize for your troubles you are having. Please give these suggestions a try.
    1) Make sure safety is in off position
    2) Make sure the line is off of the line release on the side of the gun we loading shaft
    3) Apply a significant amount of preesure to engage shaft into trigger mechanism
Please try all these options again just to make sure.

    David,
The new housing for the “woody” series is a much stronger molded plastic with a new 3 piece 1/4″ trigger assembly.

I have the old woody sawed off magnum, although i’ve taken many nice fish I am dissapointed with it’s range it claims 18ft. However i think they should say thats the shock cord length not kill range. My max kill range has got to be less than 8 ft. the gun wont shoot either unless I pull the trigger in part way before loading, thus making the safety not work. My friends Riffe gun the same lenght make this one feel like a toy, hopefully the new version is better!

I just used my brand new 38n woody in the keys. I found reloading the shaft to be very difficult. It never wanted to just snap in. Very disappointed in this gun. I have had jbl’s in the past and never had these difficulties!

  12. JBL Hunter says:

    Karl,
The new trigger much more solid and can with stand a lot more resistance. If you will look at the picture on the website it might make more sense as you have to give it the extra push to engage the 3 part mechanism. A trick is to pull the trigger, set the shaft in, an release the trigger. However it in no way should be “very difficult”. If you believe you are having problems, take it back to the store you bought it from and have them look at it. They can obtain a RMA# if there should be a warranty issue that needs to be resolved.

I would suggest selling the gun you have and getting one of the new M-7 Woody Magnums. The gun you have was discontinued almost 4 years ago.

I am unaware that most JBL customers are unhappy?? We sell quite a few, well to be frank ALOT of spearguns every year. If you are referring to older product that is out of warranty I do suggest buying the lastest and greatest! If there is a current product that is indeed a warranty issue we will be most happy to cover it and make sure the customer is satisfied.

I am trying to figure out how bands are replaced on the Woody models of JBL spearguns. I would like to buy one, but I would like to know the answer to this question before I do.

It appears that the bands are completely enclosed by molded plastic.

(I am sorry if this is a duplicate message, but I left one yesterday and do not see it here now)

    Thanks,

    Jordan

This is my second season using a JBL. Currently using the JBL Woody Magnum. Shot 6 Amberjacks in the 30-38″ range this last weekend. The only Complaint I have is the reloading. More times then not, it takes slamming the shaft in to get it to click. When out in the open water and theres 7 ft bullsharks being nosey… this becomes a problem.
Thumbs up on the gun, any suggestions on how to fix my problem.
